The safe, profitable alternative to a losing bet

While many of us were learning the hard way that a buy-and-hope strategy is bound to fail, Don Schreiber, Jr., and Gary E. Stroik were busy updating All About Dividend Investing--the proven answer to a highly flawed, totally outdated, but all-too-common investing approach.

This back-to-basics book argues that dividend-paying stocks, not growth stocks, form the best foundation for any portfolio. Used strategically, dividends are your best bet for safe, profitable investing. Why? Three simple facts Dividends are low risk. Dividends work in bull markets. Dividends work in bear markets. Whether you're a veteran investor or a beginner, All About Dividend Investing, Second Edition, provides the facts you need about

  • Tax advantages of dividend-paying stocks

  • I bought about 7 books on investing (Invested in books on investing?) and so far i have to say this is the one we go back to every time we have a question. I think this (out of the 7) will be the one that I keep on the bookshelf for future reference.

My husband said "it's funny, somehow, we read the first couple of chapters and went off and invested in a few things, and then now I come back to the book and it pretty much elaborates on how you should do what we did, already"

So, I guess just by picking apart a first few chapters, we had enough info to start the ball rolling in the direction we wanted. The stocks we picked have been doing steady slow growth, which is what we wanted, and when they dip below what we paid (rare) We've managed to pick up more shares to dollar/cost average to our advantage (as the book teaches you to do, in later sections)

in all, a must read for anyone wanting to get into the stock market because their savings account and IRAs are giving them 1% (*that's what MINE is doing...curse the luck!)

Good luck! Hope this helps )
  • While well-written, the argument that an investor can rely on dividends to grow his or her portfolio is specious. I think that dividends are an important component, but just a component, that leads to the overall growth of a portfolio. Dividend stocks , generally value picks, rise and fall faster and slower than growth stocks, depending on the economic cycle and what types of stocks are trendy at that moment. If you buy value stocks when they're out of favor this strategy will work just fine. But if you buy value stocks when they're hot (like right now, at the beginning of 2017) you might be buying at the peak when growth stocks perform better. I am a fan of dividend stocks, and value stocks. So, I appreciate the message. And if you can buy and hold, or dollar cost average into dividend stocks over several market cycles, you should do fine. As for choosing individual stocks, I am not a fan at all. Low cost index funds or ETFs are the way to go, in my opinion. The explosion of ETFs allows an investor to choose a dividend-focused approach without following individual companies. Indexes do not go bankrupt.
  • Very clearly written and helpful. Good basic information. Would have given it a five but, since published in 2011, some parts are getting a little dated. Overall excellent place to start for self-directed investors looking to enter into dividend growth investing.
  • This is a well written book; and a solid plan for investing. Learn how to reap those dividends, and how to select good holdings for your portfolio.
  • Reinforced my gut feeling to move my sticks into dividend funds. I've been reaping higher returns ever since.
  • Some compelling arguments here for conservative investors who are trying to decide their stock v bond allocations.
  • Great ideas
  • Used this book in my investing class. Very good
