• Great read! I highly recommend this book!!
  It opens the door to the author's experiences in a way that allows others to fully relate to him. It captivates audiences of such varying backgrounds, because life is a struggle for everyone. This book gives an example of the author's struggles and offers a perspective on how to journey through them. His vivid descriptions and analogies allows all people to be able to relate. This book is one of triumph... a story of a kid growing up and finding himself and getting knocked down along the way, but being able to continue to get up while seeing the humor along the way. The message I got was, 'life is tough...when it is bad, it is bad, but it always gets better and humor is so incredibly important along the way' (as is being able to occasionally fight for the principle of something!)
• The themes of love, loss, family, and coping are presented with such engaging similes and humor, you can't help wanting to be a part of Kevin's journey in spite of the many hardships. He's able to present his surroundings and characters so vividly, choosing with care and purpose every word, and clearly pouring his heart and soul into every page. He has a real knack for storytelling with which I hope he continues to bless us. Thank you, Kevin!
• Believe it or not, I actually found this book to be somewhat cathartic. It touched on themes that I have not dealt with in years and this book helped, tremendously. There were portions where I laughed out loud. There were sections that caused the tears to flow freely. Kevin Zalinsky has a writing style that will keep you captivated. I found it difficult to put the book down. Although the book does not follow chronological events, it is very well organized. Above all, the book is honest. Kevin doesn't pull any punches and takes responsibility for his actions. Well, done, Kevin Zalinsky. Well done!
• Absolutely great read! I read this book in 2 days, and didn't want to put it down. It captures the reader and makes you feel as if you were watching it through a movie screen. It sent me through quite a few emotions and left me eager to know more. I can't wait to see what else this author has up his sleeve!
• While not a chronology of events, Kevin's stories are told with such truth, vulnerability, and vivid descriptions that you feel like you are a silent observer sitting next to him as he lives through raw, real, and often heartbreaking moments from childhood through his 20s. For a book that covers such heavy and gut-wrenching topics as alcoholism, coming of age (and coming out), cancer, and suicide, I can't believe I laughed as often as I did. Kevin perfectly captures what it was like to grow up in the 90's as part of a large, loud, Irish Catholic family from a small NJ town. Anyone who grew up in the 90s with parents who were perpetually telling them, "get outside, just be home in time for dinner", or has memories of choking back "Aunt Debbie's" ambrosia at family gatherings, or who comes from a family where its perfectly acceptable to switch from drinking coffee to drinking wine mid-day will appreciate this collection of tales ...some hilarious and some heart-wrenching...told from the perspective of someone who realizes we are all "still working on it."
• Absolutely loved this book. It was so well written an easy to read. I couldn’t put it down! It is a must read for all!!
• This book had me hooked from the moment I opened it. I am most definitely not an avid reader, but I literally binge read this book today. It made me laugh, cry and I just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone out there. It tells an amazing story of being dealt a shit sandwich at times, falling on your face and figuring out how to deal with it while making mistakes along the way (well in my own not so refined manner).

• This book was a heartfelt look at one man's journey as a gay man in the military and his family. His courage in facing issues that came with that journey is a testament of his growing wisdom. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
