La vita è bella! Especially if you let cities like Modena inspire you. Give this amazing town the chance to charm, nourish and cuddle you. Then open your soul to glorious and seasonal recipes, enjoyable traditions and inspiring art from all over Italy.Life is beautiful, and Italians know it very well. So will you...The Gourmet Mag is an Italian cookbook, travelogue and seasonal magazine with real food, traditions, and lifestyle. It is an independent, handmade, publication made in Rome.---------Welcome to the Modena Issue of the Gourmet Mag!As anticipated, the main topic of this issue is Modena, lovely tiny delicious Modena. When I told an uncle of mine from Northern Italy I was exploring Modena cuisine he told me "Do you know what people say about Modena? That when someone from Bologna wants to eat well, he goes to Modena". And that, my friends, sums up the goodness of this place.Modena is worldwide famous for its traditional balsamic vinegar, the real, authentic, aged for at least 12 years, one. So after investing a little capital in a tiny bottle of it, I enjoyed testing recipes that exalted its flavor (turning out pork is balsamic's best friend). After exploring Modena, it will be nearly Carnevale, so I shared with you some regional recipes for you to celebrate as an Italian two sweet treats and polpette! Yes, there are special meatballs to be made during Carnival. But winter is also a time to pamper yourself, contemplate beauty and learn new things, so I added a Winter Flowers Project and a Corcos project... what's that? you may be wondering... A project about Vittorio Matteo Corcos, the painter of modern femininity, whose painting "Dreams" inspired much of this issue and a lot of my recent artsy life. The Belle Epoque painter who was able to read the souls of women, and reveal them in his portraits.More winter cuddles will come from flaming hot minestrone soups. You thought there's only one minestrone soup recipe, right? I did so as well, but we were wrong! We'll take it easy for now, and we'll explore 3 recipes from North to South of the peninsula. For more healthy but delicious eating, and to celebrate the winter veggies, we will honor the king of them all the already crowned (just put it upside down) Sir Artichoke!Winter Sundays wouldn't be complete (and warm and cozy) without turning on the oven! So get ready to flour your hands (and nose and cheeks), and be sure you have a good book at hand, to read while waiting for your creations to rise.Lastly, as I always do, I added a few little gems from my always fascinating, difficult to live but never boring, city, Rome a secret spot out of touristic paths and, moreover, some wintry adventures.Ready for a rich, mindful, tasty Winter? Follow me...RememberIngredients are usually for two servings but you can duplicate them as needed.Measurements are in grams, cups, and oz whenever possible!

"Winter GOURMET Mag (The Modena Issue): I was contacted via email from Claudia (awesome creator of COURMET Mag) asking if I would be interested in participating in a review of the magazine. YES!! I’d read several other issues and was drawn in with her Italian recipes, photography, stories, bucket lists, and history.

The winter bucket list has one item that I can relate to: Claudia writes: Learn the expression “Fa un freddo cane – translation is “it’s doggy cold,” i.e, it’s so cold it hurts like a dog biting you! I live in Maine (USA) and we’ve had a very early winter. Several snow storms in November/December. We had a very white (snopw) Thanksgiving and will have a white Christmas. We have three dogs. Our oldest is a 14 year old little black Pomeranian. He can tell you how “doggy cold” it has been. Minus numbers (Fahrenheit).

Recipes I’m planning on making in this issue: Fried Gnocchi, Modena’s crepes, tagliattee with a super sounding ragu, artichoke dishes and all of the minestrone recipes… possibly more. What I love about this magazine is I find recipes with ingredients I’m used to (a few I’ve had to check out online) but recipes are just enough different than my regular cooking fare that I feel compelled to try them. I love learning and experimenting.

The history and photos of Carnival are colorful and very interesting. And loved the section on The Balsamic Vinegar Project… I’m doing research on Amazon and have picked out two aged vinegars I want to use… really want to try an 18 year old one. Yes it’s pretty pricy but Claudia reminds me that you don’t need much for each dish you use it in. Will report back on that another time. And am trying the “Balsamic Vinegar Pork Cutlets from the magazine for dinner this evening – though the vinegar I currently have only has a few years on it.... will have to do for now

Hey people! Cook, eat and enjoy the contents of this Mag…."

  • My wife and I tried several recipes from this magazine/cookbook. Everything we made was more than delicious! The recipes are easy to follow and the measurements seem true. We enjoyed the relaxed lighthearted attitude of the author as well as the way she shares Italian culture. This is not something you buy and put away, this is the one that stays on the kitchen counter. We cooked artichokes for the first time because of this magazine and it won’t be the last. The recipe for Villanella Artichokes will make you swoon, and if you’re ever cold the Ministrone from Milan will warm you to your soul! I have cooked for many years in many different countries and have never enjoyed a cookbook more! This book is like a vacation to Italy! The attention to detail and inside look at Italian regional culture is fantastic! Grazie Claudia!
  • The information is useful, but the tone comes across a little bit pretentious. Photos are stunning.

Hey people! Cook, eat and enjoy the contents of this Mag….
  • Its snowing like crazy here in the Northwoods, and, where am I? Hmmm…. I’m deeply immersed in the Gourmet Mag's Modena Issue. Part travelogue, part cookbook, part photo journalism, part gourmet delight, part Italian dream……… I’m enthralled by each page and impressed by where Claudia, the Gourmet Mag’s creator takes me as I drift from one image to another. I particularly like the winter bucket list Watch, Read, Listen Learn… to get you in the mental state for armchair travel to Italy. The recipes are easy to understand, follow and make. The photography is personal and brilliant. Plus the wide range of topics makes you wonder what else will be covered in the issue. For example, Balsamic Vinegar was never so interesting, exciting, and versatile. In the end, this issue was an unexpected treat and appealed to my senses. I’m looking forward to the next, unique issue, to learn more about all things regional Italian.
  • Winter bucket list recommendations currently in progress, I go back to glance at the magazine again and again! The photography is beautiful, the topics concise, and the passion shines through. I can’t wait for another season and region. Thank you.
