Break Free Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in 3 Steps A Workbook for Overcoming SelfDoubt and Embracing Life Tanya J Peterson MS NCC Shawn E Verdin MA Books Reviews

  • I love this book and refer to it often. As someone who has battled anxiety and depression off and on for 20 years, I have tried an awful lot of therapies to find relief (yoga, prayer, meditation, medication, counseling, and studying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). All of them have positively impacted me to some degree, but ACT is the first one I've felt really excited and optimistic about. Instead of engaging my thoughts endlessly (aka ruminating), ACT challenges you to find a valued alternative and move enthusiastically towards it. This book gently but authoritatively describes the process and coaches you through the steps. Is this a quick fix? No. However, I've felt lighter than I have in months, and even on the tough days I'm able to refocus my energy towards more concrete and positive endeavors. And for me, that has been no small accomplishment.
  • Excellent overview of ACT for clinicians and/or potential clients. Practical, readable, helpful. Definitely recommend.
  • Break Free lays out an easily understood blueprint for gaining perspective on what's important to you. It follows through by showing you how to specific strategies for living your life on purpose.
  • Highly recommend ACT and this workbook gives you an excellent working experience of the process.
  • I really benefited from childhood. The exercises were very helpful. The author made difficult concepts very easy to understand. I'm anxious to read more of her books.
  • Very good book to help clients learn to do ACT.
  • IĆ¢€™m enjoying it so far! But I still have a lot to go.
